El fondo de manuscritos musicales de la Catedral Matriz de Cuenca - Ecuador en el siglo XIX y las influencias ejercidas por la Catedral de Lima - Perú: Estudio de la obra de Domingo Arquimbau

Abstract

The present work proposes an approach to the musical manuscripts fund of the Cathedral of Cuenca in the XIX century, where the characteristics and fundamental data of such cataloguing are described; it also seeks to establish possible relations of influences or exchanges between the Cathedral of Cuenca and the Cathedral of Lima —depending on the documentaries investigated—. It takes as a case study the stylistic analysis of the work of the Spanish composer Domingo Arquimbau, recovered from the aforementioned manuscript collection. The methodology used is qualitative, based on a diachronic system. The existence of relations between the cathedrals of Lima and Cuenca was confirmed, through exchanges of musicians and similar administrative processes for the construction of the instrumental ensemble. It was also evidenced that the Hispanic religious model was implanted in Cuenca, however, it had to be adapted to the conditions and particularities of the epoch in which it was developed.
