Diseño del anteproyecto arquitectónico del Centro Geriátrico para el Cantón Girón, Ecuador

Abstract

Human beings live through a natural aging phenomenon that in the long term evidences a physical and emotional deterioration in elderly people. The level of this decline will depend in each person’s lifestyle. In most cases, the majority of elderly people suffer frequent physical and emotional ail-ments because they are more vulnerable. As a consequence, elderly people reduce their ad-vantages to solve usual activities. Currently, there is a Geriatric Center at Canton Girón that carries out activities with elderly people and school activities with children. The space where this takes place is rented by a legal lease with defined dates. After analyzing this, it means that the canton does not have its own place for these services. Therefore, the authorities of the Municipality of Canton Girón present a physical space for the execution of the Architectural Preliminary Project of Geriatric Center (municipal equipment). The research carried out in the development of the Architecture Preliminary shows us the vital importance of why the elderly need personal care for a better living and focuses on the im-portance of reintegrating older people into society and avoiding future health complications due to their natural decline. Therefore, it analyzes laws of regulations of the place and some similar Geri-atrics Centers, from which extracts a couple of criteria and ideas for the architecture design and execution. Finally, it is made a rapprochement and site analysis to involve the environment with the center of the project and thus be able to conceive the social reintegration.
