Representaciones sociales patriarcales y capitalistas en torno al cuerpo de mujeres desde una perspectiva de género en usuarias del gimnasio Soy Fitness de Cuenca, Ecuador, en el año 2023

Abstract

Social representations and gender stereotypes are transmitted through the combined action of several fundamental social institutions such as family, school, religion and the media. These determine expectations related to the social, sexual and identity behavior of the body according to the binary logic of masculinity/femininity; That is, gender roles and stereotypes are transmitted and everything they imply in the form of social representations as cultural deposits that contribute to a person's social status. In this way, the general objective of this research is to describe the social representations and stereotypes around the body of women from a gender perspective in users of the SOY FITNESS Gym in Cuenca, Ecuador, in the year 2023. The research has a qualitative approach. a type of phenomenological design and the exploratory scope. Nine interviews were conducted with users of the SOY FITNESS gym, over 18 years of age. The in-depth interview was applied to identify and analyze current stereotypes about female and feminized bodies, as well as to contrast the experiences that the users have had regarding the social representations of their body as part of a process of reproduction of stereotypes and gender violence. against them, before and after exercising at the SOY FITNESS Gym. As a result, we hope to analyze the social representations that revolve around the female body, taking into account changing models of the body and femininity in the context of patriarchy and capitalist globalization.
