Abstract:
Based on an ethnographic research conducted before, during and after the beauty pageant “Reina de Cuenca” during the years 2016 and 2017, this thesis examines the construction of the concept of beauty surrounding these events. By conducting interviews and engaging in participative observation to explore the evolution of the conceptualization of beauty, this paper: a) describes the production of a beauty queen, B) the relation that exists between religion and morals along with social class, as well as gender and race in the construction of the beauty queen and its significance for the elites of the city.

Basada en un trabajo etnográfico realizado antes, durante y después del certamen Reina de Cuenca en los años 2016 y 2017, esta tesis examina la construcción de la belleza alrededor de este certamen. Utilizando entrevistas y observación participante para explorar la evolución de la conceptualización de la belleza, este trabajo: a) describe la producción de una reina, b) la relación que existe entre la religión y la moral, junto con la clase; género y raza en la construcción de la reina y su significado en la élite de la cuidad.
