Archivo Histórico Musical de la Biblioteca Luís Pauta Rodríguez de la ciudad de Cuenca, Ecuador: situación actual y estudio preliminar

Abstract

This research focuses on the analysis of the original scores preserved in the historical archive of the Luis Pauta Rodríguez Library in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador, belonging to the Jose Maria Rodriguez conservatory. Through an exploratory approach and using an empirical-analytical methodology, the study presents a detailed overview of the archive's composition in terms of authors, musical genres, and the years of the works. The digitization of seven hundred and three scores constitutes one of the outstanding achievements of this work, providing a basis for the digital preservation and future study of this heritage.The results reveal a predominance of genres such as pasillos (corridors), hymns, and waltzes within the works still unpublished, which not only highlights the musical diversity of the archive but also its cultural and historical value. In addition, detailed statistics are provided that allow a better understanding of the distribution and characteristics of the scores.The research concludes by emphasizing the importance of preserving this musical heritage, both for academic study and for future cultural enjoyment. The final reflections invite further studies that deepen the understanding of this collection and promote its conservation and dissemination. In this way, the study not only offers a diagnosis of the current situation of the scores in the Luis Pauta Rodríguez Library but also makes a call to action to ensure the survivalof this important musical legacy.
