Apreciación del arte como herramienta para la alfabetización visual de niños de Educación Básica Elemental

Abstract

This work is presented as an inquiry exercise focused on studying the potential of art appreciation as a means to foster visual literacy in Elementary Basic Education students. Through the exploration of methodologies such as DBAE (Discipline Based Art Education) and the Triangular Proposal of visual arts, the study proposes a curricular integration that combines art theory and practice to enrich the educational experience. The research highlights the importance of contextualizing, analyzing, and creating art as vehicles for developing critical and creative skills in children. By applying practical workshops centered on artists like Piet Mondrian and Vincent Van Gogh, it aims to promote not only artistic knowledge but also the ability to interpret and communicate visually. The applied methodology allowed observing an improvement in the children's ability to interpret and create visual messages, which is fundamental in a society increasingly dominated by images. The study concludes that the effective incorporation of art appreciation into elementary education significantly enriches the cognitive, emotional, and aesthetic development of students. This study suggests the need for teacher training in art teaching methodologies, the integration of digital technologies in artistic learning, and the creation of spaces that encourage experimentation and creative dialogue among students
