Insatisfacción con la imagen corporal y el riesgo a desarrollar trastornos de conducta alimentaria en adolescentes mujeres de un colegio de la ciudad de Cuenca- Ecuador, 2023

Abstract

Dissatisfaction with body image and behaviors that can lead to the development of an Eating Behavior Disorder (ED) are highly recurrent among female adolescents, who are going through physical, psychoemotional and social changes. The present research had a quantitative approach, correlational scope, non-experimental and cross-sectional design; it ́s main objective was to determine the relationship between dissatisfaction with body image and

the risk of developing ED in female adolescents from a high school in the city of Cuenca- Ecuador. A total of 111 participants were analyzed using the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ)

and the Eating Attitudes Test-26 (EAT-26), each of them in their versions adapted to the Latin American context. The main results indicated that the perception of normative body discomfort was superior to pathological body discomfort; however, it was identified that 70.3% of the studied population were at risk of developing ED. In addition, positive relationships were found between the elements of the two variables such as oral control, bulimia factor, preoccupation with food and both normative and pathological body discomfort.
