Prevalencia de conductas sexuales de riesgo y factores asociados en estudiantes de Medicina de la Universidad de Cuenca, 2023

Abstract

Background: Adolescents and adults often engage in risky sexual behavior (CSR), including casual dating, unprotected sex, promiscuity; causing unwanted pregnancies, abortions, sexually transmitted diseases, psychological disorders, family, academic and/or work problems. General objective: to determine the prevalence of risky sexual behaviors and associated factors in Medicine students at the University of Cuenca in the year 2023. Methods: observational, analytical and cross-sectional study. 165 university students who met the inclusion criteria participated. The information was collected through a form. The data were processed in the SPSS program. Descriptive statistics were used, and normality and Mann Whitney U tests were applied to test hypotheses. The results were presented in personalized tables. Results: the prevalence of CSR was 55.8% (95% CI: 47.83% to 63.47%). The beginning of active sexual life after the age of 16, was the most frequent CSR with 82.4%, followed by the practice of sexual relations with multiple sexual partners and having more than two partners with 70.9% and 66, 7%, respectively; 58.2% had sexual relations under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. A statistical association was identified with CSR and LGBTI sexual orientation and those people who practiced any religion (p˂0.05). Conclusions: a high prevalence of CRS was observed, the beginning of sexual life during adolescence was the most common CSR, identifying a relationship with sexual orientation and the praxis of some religion
