La oralidad como herramienta de comunicación intercultural en las comunidades: Suscalpampa, Achupillas y Cercapata del cantón Suscal

Abstract

This research focuses on analyzing the validity of Kichwa orality in the communities of Suscalpampa, Cercapata, and Achupillas through the study of stories, legends, and the use of anthroponyms and toponyms. Its objective is to contribute to the recognition of the value of orality in memory feedback and intercultural communication. To do this, oral expressions that are related to cultural identity and local knowledge are documented; their role in the interaction and communication of the communities, inside and outside, is analyzed; and it contributes to its future conservation through its registration in Kichwa and translation into Spanish. Due to its qualitative nature, the research ventures into the world of meanings built over time and interprets the reality in which subjects interact and coexist. This approach merited a fundamentally ethnographic approach with the following research techniques: participant observation and in-depth on-site interview. The results indicate that oral stories are still preserved in the communities, obtaining twelve tales and ten legends in Kichwa told by elders. The stories demonstrate adaptability to contexts, crossing imaginary and linguistic borders; the legends illustrate the connections between humans and the sacred beings of nature. Orality is essential to transmit local knowledge and reinforce the feeling of belonging to the communities, which is why it becomes a key element for strengthening their identity, but also for intercultural communication.
