El género gótico y el personaje femenino en La primera vez que vi un fantasma (2018), de Solange Rodríguez

Abstract

With the present study we will enter the feminine Gothic, a Latin American variant of the European literary Gothic, which has been adapted to the Latin American context and its marks are visible in the writing of Solange Rodríguez Pappe, from Guayaquil, precisely in her collection of short stories La primera vez que vi un fantasma (2018). In this sense, our work aims to analyze Rodríguez's account, from the concepts of female Gothic according to Marina Fe (2000), in order to make visible how the author uses the typical marks of traditional Gothic European and places them in their context; this, to narrate, mainly, the feminine problems in the society of the 21st century. For the analysis we will use the hermeneutical method of Paul Ricouer (1995) and his theory of triple mimesis. At the end, we will show that the Guayaquil woman has taken up and prolonged the gothic tradition, from a feminine and Latin American perspective, to create transgressive female characters that are part of plots rooted in our national culture.
