Consecuencias en el rol materno y en el rol de estudiantes de la carrera de Trabajo Social de la Universidad de Cuenca, causadas por el confinamiento por COVID 19; período marzo-agosto 2020

Abstract

The outbreak of coronavirus disease, caused by the severe respiratory syndrome virus type- 2 (SARS-Cov-2), was declared a pandemic in March 2020. To stop the spread of the virus,

the Ecuadorian Government declared the state of exception and within this, virtual education throughout the country. The objective of the investigation is to analyze the consequences in the maternal role and in the role of the students of the Career of Social Work of the University of Cuenca, caused by the lockdown of COVID 19 in the period March-August 2020. The approach that was applied was qualitative, with the support of the interview technique with a semi-structured guide that was applied to 25 mother students of the Social Work career. Among the results obtained, the students received the support of their mothers in the care of their children while they studied, organizing their time based on activity schedules. The lockdown, was an opportunity to resume their studies, since they were forced to suspend them to carry out their maternal role before the pandemic, although it was difficult for them at the beginning, their academic performance improved in some cases, while family relationships were strengthened by sharing more time with the family.
