La taptana y la yupana como herramientas didácticas para el aprendizaje de la suma y resta

Abstract

This monograph work is relevant in the educational field, specifically in the area of mathematics, given that, it aims at demonstrating the importance of using the Taptana and Yupana as didactic tools for learning addition and subtraction. To achieve this aim, different books, scientific articles, assay, and other documents related to the topic were consulted and analyzed. Additionally, it was conducted an interview to nine teachers about their perceptions and experiences about the contribution of the Taptana and the Yupana to the learning of addition and subtraction, as well as the contribution of such tools to other children’s learning. In the literature review it was found that, indeed, both the Taptana and the Yupana benefit students’ learning of addition and subtraction. In addition, the results of the interviews indicated that the Taptana and the Yupana help to both, the learning of addition and subtraction and the learning of other mathematical skills. Finally, it is concluded that, although these ancestral tools are not widely known, they continue to be used by some teachers inside and outside the country.
