Abstract:
Cervical cancer is the fourth cause of cancer death in women worldwide, in Ecuador it occupies the second place, it occurs mainly because the diagnosis is made in advanced stages due to failure in screening programs. In its early stages, it does not present symptoms, and these could be observed in advanced disease, such as: abnormal vaginal bleeding between menstrual periods. The purpose of screening is to diagnose and identify people who are most likely to have a disease. Objective: To identify the factors related to adherence to cervical cancer screening in the administrative staff of the University of Cuenca in the year 2020-2021. Methodological design: a descriptive, prospective and cross-sectional study was carried out, whose universe was made up of 144 women who are part of the administrative staff of the University of Cuenca, virtual questionnaires were carried out using Google Forms. Statistical analysis was performed in SPSS. The qualitative variables are exposed through percentages, the quantitative variables will be exposed presenting Relative Risk, confidence interval and value of P. Results: The variables that have a statistically significant relationship with access to the Papanicolaou test are age: (RR 1.127), shame, (RR 0.792), presence of a bedside gynecologist (RR 1.143). The variables that have statistical significance with adherence are: beginning of sexual life before age 20 (RR 1,119), contact with the health system for hormonal contraception, (RR 1,179), presence of a bedside gynecologist has a positive relationship (RR 1.2) and the male gender of the personnel performing the test (RR = 0.868). Conclusions: the variables that have a statistically significant relationship with access are: shame and the presence of a gynecologist. The variables that have a statistically significant relationship with adherence are: beginning of sexual life before the age of 20, contact with the health system for hormonal contraception, presence of a gynecologist and the male gender of the personnel performing the test.
