Construcción de priostazgo: resignificaciones en la fiesta de los toros en honor al Señor de Girón en el contexto de alta migración

Abstract

Girón is an agro-livestock society located in the southern area in Ecuador. Just like the entire austral region, this town has also severely faced the migratory phenomenon. This has disrupted the township economically, socially and culturally. Construcción de priostazgo: resignificaciones en la Fiesta de los Toros en honor al Señor de Girón en el contexto de alta migración, it is an ethnography that analyzes; firstly, the historical and geographical structure in the town of Girón. The survival pan-Andean camelids sacrifice, now it synchronized in the ritual sacrifice of the bull and the form how it was traditionally structured. Next, it tries to describe the bulls’ celebration in the actuality, offering an anthropological theorization of that to identify what has been the influence of high migration on it. Finally, this investigation focuses on the changes and continuities that the celebration has suffered and how the prioste’s figure is built within the framework of the resignifications produced by migration. This work, being an ethnography, has made it possible to work with participant observation in the celebration and make interviews to the people who were part of it, mainly to the priotes. With these techniques of investigation, it was possible to observe and interpret the relationship present between the priostazgo and migration in relation to the investigation question. This work concluded with the category of prioste–migrante, as a subject product of the high income from migration that breaks with whom “traditionally” held this position of power
