Análisis descriptivo e interpretativo de los símbolos y temáticas presentes en las pinturas religiosas de la Iglesia Matriz de Zaruma

Abstract

The actual study it’s regarding an approach of the iconographic analysis of the symbols found in the religious paintings of Zaruma. We will work with an analysis of the pre-iconographic, iconographic and iconological levels proposed by Panofsky in four of the religious paintings located in the Main Church of Zaruma. The main goal of this proposal (“project”) is to generate an analysis line that allows to identify the symbolic elements and iconographic representations of the selected paintings, to understand their relationship with the Zaruma culture and with the context of religious art in general. Therefore, these relationships will be established through the connection with stories from the Bible and their representations in art, to identify concepts and main (principal) ideas of this artistic representation and how they have become the symbols of the Christian culture.
