Percepción de los trabajadores de limpieza afroecuatorianos frente a la discriminación

Abstract

Starting from the term ethnicity, the way we relate to each other it is marked by the aspects that distinguish an ethnic group from another that put the limits, these differences, added to the work that is done and the position that is occupied, establish how we behave, the type of treatment we give and how we deal with the other. The present investigation has as purpose to know and understand the perception that the Afro-Ecuadorian cleaning workers of the Afro-Aseo Association have, in the face of discrimination on the part of teachers, the administrative sector, the concierge and students; since it is they, with whom they live daily and are the university community to which they provide a service. For this, an investigation was made with a qualitative ethnomethodological approach, which allowed me to collect the perceptions from a close and daily reality of the members of the association. So they applied, twelve semi-structured interviews were applied to members of the Afro-Ecuadorian Association that work within the University of Cuenca. The study reports an ethnic and labor hierarchy, within the framework of power relations, which are manifested in negative attitudes such as rejection and contempt; following of mental associations like those of resembling Afro-Ecuadorian with insecurity, theft, servitude that affect behaviors such as insults, shouts, offenses, humiliations
