Abstract

The present study approaches the ornamental work present in the heritage buildings of Cuenca, from the variables of assessment, conservation and management of the built cultural heritage. Its analysis recovers the symbolic expression of the aesthetic and decorative components, to elevate it to the category of revitalizing agent of the patrimonial buildings. It shows the history of the architecture of Cuenca and develops concepts that explain the ornamental fact and how its repeated presence, evidences processes of change in the urban landscape of the city. Finally, it develops the ornamental work as substrate of the cultural tradition, articulated to historical and social processes to establish alternatives of safeguard and protection. With these elements, a model of catalog will be made
