El discurso artístico en la escena plástica ecuatoriana. Salón de julio 2010-2014

Abstract

This research project uses an analytical and interpretative qualitative approach to make a comparative analysis of the artistic discourse that came from the voices of artists, curators, art critics and directors of the Municipal Museum in the context of the Salon de Julio (art show) in July 2010-2014, Guayaquil, Ecuador. The analysis was based on the methodology of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) of Teun Van Dijk. The discourse released through digital media discussed the clause included by the Municipal Museum of Guayaquil in the Call for the No. 52 edition of the Art Show in July 2011, which mentions: The theme and technique is free. However, no proposals submitted with language and / or sexually explicit graphics will be accepted. The analysis follows that there´s no discourse produced by a majority belonging to the artistic community, especially from artists, who need to state their criticism regarding that clause. It is concluded that the local authority (institution / museum and local government) controls the discourse and thus persuades the viewers / community and positions a conservative ideology. As a result of it the discourse of artists, curators and art critics does not reproduce a counterhegemonic discourse in the local mindset
