| Abstract: | Introduction: The pregnant woman is susceptible to have a gum disease product of systemic alterations during pregnancy and the presence of risk factors that facilitate the establishment of Gingivitis. Therefore is important to know which are the predisposing factors in the oral cavity to facilitate the emergence of the disease and prevent it. There are some risks factors as overweight, hypertension, frequency of oral hygiene, removable appliances or fixed prosthetic or orthodontic type in the oral cavity are facilitating the accumulation of plaque, visit the dentist, tooth position, habit of smoking.
Methods: The study was done on 60 pregnant women, 30 of them with located Gingivitis and 30 with Generalized gingivitis. The information was collected in a form using the intraoral examination and oral questions. After crossing variables and Chi2 application it was made.
Results: 3.3% of cases and 16.6% of controls are underweight, 13.3% of cases are obese, and only 3.3% are overweight. 3.3% of cases had hypertension. These values are not statistically significant. No severe inflammation was found in controls, while in 40% of cases was present. 58.3% of patients decreased the hygienic´s frequency for nausea causing by toothbrushing.
Conclusions: Gingivitis in pregnant women is caused by the accumulation of plaque in the gingiva, product of the poor hygiene. No relationship between obesity and hypertension was found with Gingivitis |

Introducción: La mujer embarazada es susceptible a adquirir una enfermedad gingival debido a las alteraciones sistémicas durante la gestación y por la presencia de factores de riesgo que faciliten la instauración de Gingivitis. Por lo cual es importante conocer cuáles son los factores predisponentes en la cavidad oral que facilitan la aparición de la patología y de este modo prevenirla. Se estudiaron diferentes variables como posibles factores de riesgo tales como: sobrepeso, hipertensión arterial, frecuencia de higiene oral, aparatos removibles o fijos de tipo protésico u ortodóntico en cavidad oral que facilitan el acúmulo de placa bacteriana, visita al odontólogo, posición dentaria, hábito de fumar.
Métodos: El estudio se realizó en 60 gestantes, 30 de ellas con Gingivitis localizada y 30 con Gingivitis Generalizada. La información se recolectó en un formulario mediante el examen intraoral y preguntas verbales. Luego se realizó cruce de variables y aplicación de Chi2.
Resultados: El 3,3% de los casos y el 16,6 % de los testigos tienen bajo peso, el 13,3% de casos tienen obesidad, y sólo el 3,3% tienen sobrepeso. El 3.3% de casos tuvieron hipertensión arterial. Estos valores no tienen significancia estadística. No se encontró inflamación severa en los testigos, en tanto que en el 40% de los casos estuvo presente. El 58.3 % de las pacientes disminuyeron la frecuencia de higiene por las náuseas que provocó el cepillado dental.
Conclusiones: La Gingivitis en las gestantes se generó por el acúmulo de placa bacteriana en la gingiva, presencia de cálculo subgingival, higiene deficiente No se encontró relación entre obesidad e hipertensión arterial con Gingivitis |
