Familia, derechos y discapacidad en el cantón Santa Isabel, Azuay

Abstract

This study focuses on the characterization of families with members with disabilities in the Santa Isabel Canton, Azuay, during the period 2022-2024. The objective was to analyze the socioeconomic situation and access to services of these families, considering their structure, types and levels of support received. A quantitative approach was adopted, with a descriptive and cross-sectional design, and a probabilistic sample of more than 300 families was used, to whom standardized questionnaires and surveys were applied. The data obtained revealed a situation of vulnerability, with high levels of unemployment and low schooling among the members of these families, limiting their access to essential services. Likewise, a significant percentage of households reported being unaware of the inclusion policies available, which reflects a lack of information resources and social support. It is concluded that families face structural and cultural barriers to achieve effective inclusion, which highlights the need for comprehensive public policies that involve both people with disabilities and their family environment, promoting cohesion and access to resources. This study offers an empirical basis for future interventions to support these families.
