Estudio comparativo de eficacia y seguridad de vilazodona frente a otros antidepresivos: una revisión de la literatura

Abstract

One of the most prevalent disorders in psychiatry is depression and the rate of people diagnosed is on the rise. It is associated with sadness, lack of motivation, disinterest in daily activities, among others, leading to many limitations at the social, work and other levels, thus being a major public health problem. Although there are several lines of treatment, a third of patients are non-responders to the established therapy, for this reason, new alternatives are being investigated that contribute to a better approach to this pathology. Vilazodone is seen as an alternative to conventional treatment for major depressive disorder, this new generation antidepressant has a dual mechanism of action that combines inhibition of serotonin reuptake with partial agonist action of 5-HT1A receptors, generating interest for its high efficacy and good tolerance. This bibliographic update compiles relevant data and information on the safety and efficacy of a potential treatment scheme with Vilazodone versus placebo and other antidepressants (citalopram, escitalopram, sertraline), collecting information from 12 studies selected from the Pubmed, Scopus and Cochrane Library databases, helping to establish as a starting point future research work on the aforementioned topic.
