| Abstract: | Vegetation cover such as natural forests, exotic forests, and grasslands have faced intense
human pressure due to the growing demand for agricultural and livestock services, causing
degradation and changes in vegetation cover. This anthropogenic activity affects a wide
range of ecological and biophysical processes. The importance of natural forests lies in the
fact that trees provide organic matter, which is essential for maintaining soil health and
associated biodiversity. This study was conducted in the Sunsun Yanasacha protective
forest, between the Baños and Victoria del Portete parishes in the highlands of Nero, Azuay
province. The physical and chemical properties and characterization of the organic horizon
were evaluated in four types of vegetation cover: natural forest, pine forest, grassland and
pasture. Soil samples were obtained by random sampling for subsequent laboratory
analysis. In the soils of pine forests, it is common to find Oe horizons, where the thickness is
greater, while the native forest has a greater thickness in the Oa horizon in relation to the
other coverages. Significant differences were found in the pH variable of the O horizon,
where the range varied from 3 to 6 in the different vegetation covers. The characterization of
organic horizons reveals a significant variability in the chemical properties of vegetation
cover, influenced by factors such as vegetation, climate and altitude |
| Description: | Las coberturas vegetales como bosques naturales, bosques exóticos y pajonales han
enfrentado una intensa presión humana debido a la creciente demanda de servicios agrícolas
y ganaderos causando degradación y cambios en la cobertura vegetal. Esta actividad
antropogénica afecta una amplia gama de procesos ecológicos y biofísicos. La importancia
de los bosques naturales reside en que los árboles proporcionan materia orgánica, lo que
resulta fundamental para mantener la salud del suelo y la biodiversidad asociada. Este estudio
fue realizado en el bosque protector Sunsun Yanasacha, entre las parroquias Baños y Victoria
del Portete en la zona alta de Nero, en la provincia del Azuay. Se evaluaron las propiedades
físico, químicas y caracterización del horizonte orgánico en cuatro tipos de coberturas
vegetales: bosque natural, bosque de pino, pajonal y pastos. Mediante un muestreo aleatorio
se obtuvieron las muestras de suelo para posteriormente realizar los análisis
correspondientes en laboratorio. En los suelos de los bosques de pino es común encontrar
horizontes Oe, en donde el espesor es mayor, mientras que el bosque nativo su espesor es
mayor en el horizonte Oa en relación a las demás coberturas. Se encontraron diferencias
significativas en la variable pH del horizonte O donde el rango variaba 3 a 6 en las diferentes
coberturas vegetales. La caracterización de horizontes orgánicos revela una variabilidad
significativa en las propiedades químicas de las coberturas vegetales, influenciada por
