| dc.description | En este estudio retrospectivo se determinó la prevalencia de tumores mamarios caninos (TMC) en la ciudad de Cuenca y se analizaron los factores de riesgo asociados a su desarrollo, mediante un estudio de casos entre enero de 2021 y febrero de 2024. Se seleccionaron a los pacientes diagnosticados con tumor mamario por histopatología en el laboratorio H&E, con el propósito de analizar sus reportes histopatológicos y recolectar las variables: edad, raza, esterilización, número de partos, alimentación, anticonceptivos y edad de esterilización. En total, se diagnosticaron 192 tumores mamarios, encontrados en 163 pacientes. El resultado de la prevalencia fue de 10,5%, obteniendo una frecuencia mayor en tumores de tipo maligno (76%), siendo el 89,04% de ellos carcinomas. Se encontró que el 37% de los pacientes tenían entre 9 y 11 años de edad y que las razas más frecuentes fueron mestizos (28%) y poodles (17%). Dentro de las pacientes, 64% de ellas no se encontraban esterilizadas y de las esterilizadas solamente 3 fueron sometidas a esta cirugía antes de los 2 años. Además, hubo una frecuencia mayor de tumores mamarios malignos en hembras nulíparas (30%). | dc.description.abstract | This retrospective study determined the prevalence of canine mammary tumors (CMT) in the city of Cuenca and analyzed the risk factors associated with their development, through a case-control study between January 2021 and February 2024. Patients diagnosed with mammary tumors by histopathology in the H&E laboratory were selected, in order to analyze their medical records and collect the following variables: age, breed, neutering status, number of litters, diet, contraceptives, and age at neutering. A total of 192 mammary tumors were diagnosed, found in 163 patients. The result of the prevalence was 10.5%, with a higher frequency in malignant tumors (76%), 89.04% of which were carcinomas. It was found that 37% of the patients were between 9 and 11 years old and that the most frequent breeds were mixed-breed (28%) and poodles (17%). Among the patients, 64% were not spayed, and of the spayed ones, only 3 were subjected to this surgery before 2 years of age. Furthermore, there was a higher frequency of malignant mammary tumors in nulliparous females (30%).
