Nomofobia y autoconcepto en adolescentes de 12 a 17 años de la Unidad Educativa del Milenio Manuela Garaicoa de Calderón, Cuenca 2023

Abstract

Background: the society today is involved in advances in technology that today assume an importance in daily life, inadvertently generating a pathological dependence known as "Nomophobia" is being created, which refers to the irrational fear that people feel when something prevents them from interacting with their cell phone. However, self-concept plays a key role in this dynamic, since individual perception in various dimensions can influence the intensity of dependence on the mobile device. General objective: to determine nomophobia and self-concept in adolescents from 12 to 17 years old from the Millennium Educational Unit Manuela Garaicoa de Calderón, Cuenca 2023. Methodology: the study had a quantitative, observational, cross-sectional approach with a universe of 900 students and a random probabilistic sample stratified by levels of 45 students giving a total of 270. The instruments used for the research were "Nomophobia Questionnaire (NMP-Q)" and "AF-5 Self-Concept Form 5". Results: the most frequent stage in the population was middle adolescence, predominated: females with 65.6%, singles in 96.3%. The evaluation of the level of nomophobia showed that 53.3% presented moderate levels. According to the self-concept variable, 55.6% presented a medium level and according to its dimensions, the low level predominates in the emotional and physical sphere. Finally, a significant relationship was demonstrated between nomophobia and social dimension p<0.002. Conclusion: it was obtained that both problems, Nomophobia and Self-concept, were manifested at a moderate level in more than half of the sample, specifically in 53.3% and 55.6%.
