Prevalencia del síndrome de burnout y factores asociados en el personal sanitario que labora en los Dispensarios de la Subdirección Provincial del Seguro Social Campesino de Guayas. Guayaquil, 2023

Abstract

Background. Burnout is a physical and emotional exhaustion with absence of sense of accomplishment and loss of personal identity. Objective. To determine prevalence of burnout syndrome and its associated factors in health personnel of the dispensaries of the Provincial Subdirectorate of the Peasant Social Security of Guayas who worked in the period February-April 2023. Methodology. With an analytical cross-sectional design, the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) test was applied to 123 health professionals to determine: prevalence of the syndrome and its dimensions; emotional fatigue (EC), depersonalization (D) and personal fulfillment (PR); correlation with age and seniority and, association by OR (95%CI) with the sociodemographic variables whose values are presented in measures of central tendency and its dispersion. Results. The prevalence of burnout was 48.8% with similar distribution in the three professions, with high scores in CE and D and low score in PR. Depersonalization was higher in nurses (p = 0.016). There was a correlation between age and burnout (r2 = 0.931) and seniority and burnout (r2 = 0.772 ). Seniority greater than 10 years (OR 4.1; CI95%: 1.6 – 10.3), p < 0.001) and cohabitation with a stable partner (OR 3.05; CI95%: 1.2 – 7.5), p = 0.001, were associated factors. Discussion. The prevalence of burnout and its dimensions is within the values found in similar studies. The results on associated factors differ markedly.
