Prevalencia y factores asociados al deseo sexual inhibido en estudiantes de medicina de la Universidad Nacional de Chimborazo, Riobamba, 2022-2023

Abstract

Background: Hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) is a health problem that ranks third among sexual dysfunctions. There is little information on young university populations. Objective: to establish the prevalence and factors associated with inhibited sexual desire in medical students at the National University of Chimborazo, Riobamba, 2022-2023. Methodological design: observational, analytical, cross-sectional and prospective study in which 262 medical students from the National University of Chimborazo participated. Data were collected through a personal survey, which included sections on sociodemographic information, characteristics of sexual life, inhibited sexual desire test and associated factors. The data were processed in the Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) V29 program, for the relational analysis the Odds Ratio (OR) was determined, with the 95% confidence interval (95% CI) and chi square, considering that there is statistical significance if the p value <0.05. Results: the prevalence of inhibited sexual desire is 53.8%, this figure encompasses both the mild, moderate and total degree. The factors that were significantly associated were female sex, (OR = 2.20 and p = 0.003); low-middle socioeconomic level, (OR = 0.58 and p = 0.036); the low level of satisfaction in the couple's relationship, (OR = 0.32 and p=0.001); and low selfesteem, (OR = 0.50 and p=0.016). Conclusions: the inhibition of sexual desire in this population group had a high prevalence and shows a significant association with sex, socioeconomic level, satisfaction with the couple and the degree of self-esteem.
