Conductas alimentarias de riesgo relacionadas con la imagen corporal y la autoestima en adolescentes de la Unidad Educativa Benjamín Ramírez Arteaga, Cuenca 2023

Abstract

Eating Disorders (ED) has a multifactorial etiology, and its prevalence and incidence is constantly increasing worldwide, representing a health problem. This research aims to determine the relationship between body image and self-esteem with the risky eating behaviors developed by adolescents in the Benjamín Ramírez Arteaga Educational Unit. A design of quantitative, observational, analytical and transversal type was used in a sample consisting of 143 adolescents between 13 and 17 years of age. Data collection was obtained through sociodemographic data, BSQ Body Image Questionnaire, Rosenberg Scale and Scoff Questionnaire. Of the results obtained, 66.43% of adolescents have risky eating behaviors. The prevalence of risky eating behaviors according to sex was for women 70.45%, at the level of instruction high school students with 72.15%, during early adolescence 58.62% and finally based on parents who have unstable work 72.55%. Finally, the relationship of the variables was evidenced with a p = 0.009 value for body image and p = 0.00 for self-esteem, that is both the altered perception of body image and the low self-esteem are factors that influence the appearance of food risky eating behaviors, due to the changes that the person goes through during adolescence.
