Percepción de la seguridad turística en el centro histórico de la ciudad de Cuenca, Ecuador

Abstract

Cuenca, a World Heritage city, aims to consolidate as a national and international tourist destination; however, considering this fact, the city is immersed in a market that is permanently changing and growing worldwide where most countries have reached a level of maturity in regard to the tourist offer and demand. Security has become one of the most important conditions for defining the quality of a tourist destination. Such quality is obtained when the conditions are strengthened for the optimal confluence of all people involved in the tourist sector. Therefore, this thesis introduces the historical center of the city of Cuenca where a tourist space is delimited in order to study and understand the security perceived by the tourists in a place where citizens and foreigners have accepted Cuenca as a patrimonial and tourist city. In this way, it is expected that the present study makes the growth and development of the tourist activity in Cuenca easier by focusing on the main conditions that foster security in the tourism field.
