Conocimientos sobre infecciones de transmisión sexual en trabajadoras sexuales que acuden a consulta médica al Distrito 01d01-Salud Cuenca, 2017

Abstract

Background Research: Traditionally, women who practice prostitution have been attributed an important role in the transmission of infections through sexual contact. Therefore, this has been one of the target populations for control programs of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI). (1) Rigorous studies on this topic have shown that sex workers constitute a heterogeneous group in terms of their work environment, socioeconomic situation, health, sexual practices, knowledge and use of prevention measures. (2)

Objective: To determine the knowledge about sexually transmitted infections in sex workers who come to medical consultation to District 01D01-SALUD Cuenca, 2017. Methodology: the research was quantitative, the type of study was descriptive, transversal, with a universe of 1500 people from 18 and over 37 years. The sample for this research is 254 sex workers, data obtained through the adjusted formula. This information was processed through the SPSS V23 program. To analyze the data we used: a form with open and multiple choice questions, percentages, boards with their respective analyzes. Results: The results show that 75.2% of sex workers start their sexual activity between 18 and 24 years old, 60.2% use the condom as a method of self-care, 91.3% go to a doctor's office every month, 81 % solves their doubts by consulting a relevant doctor, 79.9% believe that STIs are transmitted orally, vaginally and rectally and finally 24.4% of the respondents, known as STIs Gonorrhea and HIV AIDS. Conclusions: Most sex workers have a basic knowledge about STIs that allows them to continue in this activity with their due caution focused on their sexual health.
